MacDonald Gill’s pictorial maps have recently been rediscovered following a show at Brighton University in 2011. His contribution to early infographic design first came with his ‘Wondergound’ map of the London Underground system in 1914, which led to futher commissions featuring different London areas as well as larger world maps. Initially more famous than his older brother Eric, his work has been reappraised and a smaller version of that Brighton show is now on at the Kemistry Gallery, Shoreditch. A must-see for anyone interested in illustration, maps and infographics.
